Cuban Born maria urrutia is currently a professor at West Chester University's Department of Theater and Dance.She holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College, an EdM from Temple University, and a BFA in Dance from University of the Arts. Her scholarly work, which focuses on Cuban rumba, has been presented in London, Toronto, Montreal, Trondheim, Angers and Edinburgh. Ms. urrutia works as a performer with Cardell Dance Theater, which recently presented Supper, People on the Move(a PEW supported work) as part of La Mama Experimental Theatre Festival in NYC. The work explores the multi-layer complexities of migration. Additionally in 2016, Ms. urrutia performed with internationally recognized artist Reggie Wilson of Fist and Heel on the work Re-Placing Philadelphia.Her new solo, Empty Moments, was presented at the University of London, England and as part of The Art Trust gallery opening for Contrast in Pennsylvania.
