Katty’s parents were born in Peru, raised by Japanese and Chinese parents, who instilled their Asian culture, imbedding the idea that family comes first. Katty’s strong tie with her parents has inspired her artwork. Since she was five she has worked in her parent’s feng shui shop along with her two younger sisters. Katty’s childhood was filled with wonderful memories from the bright colors, sounds, and aromas in their shop, to the colorful, playful atmosphere created through the stories developed with her sisters while roleplaying with dolls and costumes. The wonderfully mysterious and delicate drawings and animations revel the bond with her loved ones as she gently presses her fingers into shadowy soft images recalling childhood play. The process of pressing her fingers into a contemplative image is meditative and reminiscent of the cherished moments with her family. The delicate touch of her finger upon the paper and puppets simulates the intimacy one has with the ones they are closest to. Each drawing and film requires immense patience and time, a metaphor for the deep loving bond she has, we have, for family.
