Gabriel García

Commission Me

Composer & Instrumentalist

Born on May 20th, 1991 in Miami, Florida, Gabriel Garcia was initially interested more in the written word than in music. While he would try his hand at a number of different instruments, his main passion was in stories; from epic to short, from grand to personal, all he wanted to do was become a storyteller. However, some time in high school, his interests began to shift, and he started reading and writing less. At the same time, he finally found an instrument he was comfortable with, the piano.

Unsure of what to do, he began to study Psychology at Miami-Dade College in order to see where his life would lead him. Near the end of his A.A. degree, he got the chance to start a band with some friends. While their time together as a band was short lived, Gabriel discovered how fulfilled he felt when he was writing music. After finishing his A.A. in Psychology, Gabriel began taking music classes while he looked for a school to study music composition, and very soon after, a friend told him about the New World School of the Arts.

While he had never fully written a piece before, he knew that this was what he wanted to pursue, and so he pushed himself to write three complete pieces over the course of a summer. In the fall term of the same year, he applied to NWSA and began attending class there in the following spring. Now, only two years later, Gabriel is not only the Social Media Director of CMN, but he is also preparing for his senior recital. However, while he has accomplished much in a short period of time, he knows he still has a lot to learn and a very long journey ahead of him.

Gabriel currently serves on CMN's Board of Directors and is CMN's
